I agree, that it would be very helpful to have a reliable way for such converting tasks in Sigil.

In another thread I asked for a tool for analysing html, which could list all used elements in all text documents of an epub:
p
p class="h1"
p id="foo1"
p id="foo2"
span style="property:value"
em
samp
body class="title"

Does anyone know, if the search&replace interface of Dreamweaver in the search mode "specific tag" uses a parser?

Be careful with that function - it doesn't understand complex CSS either (parent child, parent sibling) and will mark those for deletion. You need to check the list it provides and uncheck those.

eg:
h2 + p.ChTitle
div.v-ctr div

I'd also be careful about combining all css sheets into one. There are some workarounds for those CSS-challenged readers where having different pages is essential. eg fonts.css or page.css

@Turtle
Typically I rewrite the complete CSS. In the structure I prefer.
I analyse the CSS manually and decide what is kicked and what is kept.
Because I kick a lot and because I can use standard CSS templates for a normalized Markup: that's not to much work.

Therefore:
My focus is on normalizing the HTML. I need tools which help me not to overlook a single element. Like I wrote in #16.

Still I had no succes in my search for such a tool.
