On Device Column Green Checkmark

A couple of my books (which are in the Calibre Library and also the e-reader's main memory) do not have a green checkmark beside them in the On Device Column. What does the green checkmark indicate?

Thanks to anyone who knows the answer to this question.

The green checkmark means they are on the device.

Sometimes it doesn't see the two books, the one on the device and the one in the library as being idenitical. This can be caused by a plugboard, a change in books metadata, or perhaps a communication error.

Resending the books usually fixes this.

another reason: Duplicate book in the Library. The other copy has the checkmark.

Select the row with the title with no check mark.
Now click the Title Column Header (this sorts by title)
Do you see a duplicate nearby?

Thanks. That did the trick. I also downloaded fresh metadata.
