Linux

Anyone use their Kindle anything with a PC running Linux? How well does Linux handle the Kindle? Does it work at all?

Overall just excellent - as there is no OS specific software needed for it. To a host PC, it is just a USB mass storage medium ready for files to be copied to it.

As for document management - Calibre (which I would suggest) is a Multi-OS application (only on Mac OS it might break some UI expectations, Windows and Linux users are custom with a bit of derivation in user interfaces).

Most of the people in the developer's corner who are developing for the Kindle actually run Linux on their computers.

I'll agree. It can be used normally. I also like that the books can be simply downloaded on pc, which is not so simple with adobe drm books.

I can't tell how it works on Windows, but I can tell it works perfectly fine with Linux (OpenSUSE or Ubuntu).

And what everybody said... Kindles work perfectly under Linux and calibre. Prefect combination.

I use nothing but GNU/Linux and it worked fine as a mass storage device. Same with my kobos.

Sane here. I've used my Kindle 3 with Fedora 14 & 17, several recent versions of Ubuntu & Lubuntu. No problems, worked perfectly. I also second the suggestion to use Calibre.

Another vote for Linux and Calibre. Great combination.
