Letters to a Young Pastor [Kindle Edition]
Calvin Miller (Author)

http://www.amazon.com/Letters-Young-...154606011_f_41

Quote:
Calvin Miller has long been one of the most creative voices in the church. As a best-selling author and poet he has enabled believers to flourish. As a pastor and educator he has equipped countless thousands to know and serve God more fully. And he’s got the battle scars to prove it.

Having survived these tumultuous decades, Dr. Miller now shares his well-earned wisdom with the next generation of pastors—including you, or someone you know.

Miller acknowledges much has changed over his years of ministry, as we’ve moved from switchboards to smartphones and from big-haired evangelists to cigar-smoking emergents. But two truths remain the same: God is love and people are broken. In this honest, engaging, and humorous collection of letters, he encourages you to fight the good fight, stay the course, and keep your eye on the Author and Finisher of the faith … to serve well every Sunday so you’ll never feel the urge to resign on Monday.

Under His Wings [Kindle Edition]
Joy DeKok (Author)

http://www.amazon.com/Under-His-Wing...154606011_f_23

Quote:
Under His Wings is a bestselling devotional collection of real-life bird encounters enjoyed by the author. Joy had no idea when she moved from the city to the country that God was going to express His love for her and all of us in so many tender moments.

You don’t have to be a birdwatcher to enjoy the stories or the life-changing truths in this delightful book.

Joy DeKok had no idea when she moved to the country that God was about to transform two of her dreams into her reality; He surrounded her by the wildlife she loves, and she became a published author. Under His Wings are the stories and lessons learned from God that she recorded in her journal. She lives on thirty-five acres of woods and field with her husband Jon and their dogs, Sophie and Tucker. When she’s not writing, reading, or spending time with family and friends, she’s exploring their land on her John Deere Gator.

Five Days in Skye: A Novel [Kindle Edition]
Carla Laureano (Author)

http://www.amazon.com/Five-Days-Skye...154606011_f_19

Quote:
Hospitality consultant Andrea Sullivan has one last chance to snag a high-profile client or she'll have to kiss her dreams of promotion good-bye. When she's sent to meet Scottish celebrity chef James MacDonald on the Isle of Skye, she just wants to finish her work as efficiently as possible. Yet her client is not the opportunistic womanizer he portrays himself to be, and her attraction to him soon dredges up memories she'd rather leave buried. For James, renovating the family hotel is a fulfillment of his late father's dreams. When his hired consultant turns out to be beautiful, intelligent, and completely unimpressed by his public persona, he makes it his mission to win her over. He just never expects to fall under her spell.

Soon, both Andrea and James must face the reality that God may have a far different purpose for their lives—and that five days in Skye will forever change their outlook on life and love.

What's So Great About the Doctrines of Grace? [Kindle Edition]
Richard D. Phillips (Author)

http://www.amazon.com/Whats-Great-Ab...154606011_f_80

Quote:
In What's So Great About the Doctrines of Grace?, the Rev. Richard D. Rick Phillips shows that the doctrines of grace, those theological tenets more popularly known as the five points of Calvinism, are comforting, faith-strengthening, and humbling teachings. In six short chapters, Rev. Phillips demonstrates conclusively from Scripture that this view of salvation exalts God and makes plain His great love for man, which drove Him to do all that was necessary to redeem a people for Himself. In his opening chapter, Rev. Phillips cites the calling of Isaiah the prophet to show that a proper understanding of the sovereignty of God leads to a willingness to serve, a humble obedience to God s commands, a holy boldness, and a firm reliance on sovereign, saving grace. Then, over the next five chapters, he deals with the five doctrines of grace one by one-total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and perseverance of the saints providing thorough explanations, answering objections, and showing how the doctrines advance Christian living. What's So Great About the Doctrines of Grace? is a compact, highly readable treasure chest of scriptural wisdom.

Lee Strobel's The Case for Faith is $1.99 right now.

B&N
Amazon
Christianbook
Kobo
Sony

Oddly, it doesn't come up in a title/author search at B&N (though the $8.99 compilation with The Case for Christ does), but it came up for me when I searched the ISBN (9780310565703).

Not in the Heart

Truman Wiley used to report news stories from around the world, but now the most troubling headlines are his own. He’s out of work, out of touch with his family, out of his home. But nothing dogs him more than his son’s failing heart.

With mounting hospital bills and Truman’s penchant for gambling his savings, the situation seems hopeless . . . until his estranged wife throws him a lifeline—the chance to write the story of a death row inmate, a man convicted of murder who wants to donate his heart to Truman’s son.

As the execution clock ticks down, Truman uncovers disturbing evidence that points to a different killer. For his son to live, must an innocent man die? Truman’s investigation draws him down a path that will change his life, his family, and the destinies of two men forever.

Left, Right & Christ: Evangelical Faith in Politics is free at Amazon.

Quote:
From the rhetoric used by both conservative and progressive Christians, one wouldn't know they shared a common faith. Now, two evangelical Christian thinkers from opposite ends of the political spectrum come together for a thought-provoking dialogue on polarizing issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage in the book Left, Right & Christ: Evangelical Faith in Politics.

Just an FYI - this appears to be self-pub from one of those pay-for-service "publishers" (no mention of royalties or manuscript submission on the site, but a long list of "services").

The book received quite a bit of attention in the press shortly after publication, so if it was self-pubbed, the authors at least hired the right marketing firm.

Yes, the "publisher" essentially is a marketing firm. that and various services pre-pub (presumably paid by the author) and they get the books distributed.

Seems to be a blend of a traditional and vanity press, with no niche focus that I could see, working with both bookstores and ebooks (but not on a royalty basis).

If you're entertained by Josh McDowell, Is the Bible True... Really? is free at B&N and Amazon.

Quitting Church: Why the Faithful are Fleeing by Julia Duin looks interesting and is free at B&N and Amazon.

Quote:
Americans still believe in God, but they are leaving the church in record numbers. Why are the faithful fleeing?
Reporter Julia Duin (Washington Times, Houston Chronicle) has collected the research and added insights from interviews with disillusioned followers, as well as from her own story. In this engrossing account of churches in decline, Duin visits numerous churches and explores a number of factors underlying the social shift away from church: irrelevant teaching, the neglect of singles, the marginalization of women, and a lack of authentic spiritual power. She also journeys into house churches and emergent congregations.
Duin’s careful analysis is sure to help church leaders—and churchgoers—examine how they might better serve their communities and create inviting spiritual homes for people of all kinds.

The Most Misused Verses in the Bible: Surprising Ways God's Word is Misunderstood is free at B&N and Amazon.

Quote:
A surprising number of well-known Bible verses are commonly misused and misunderstood. Whether intentionally or not, people take important verses out of context, and pastor and Bible scholar Eric J. Bargerhuff has seen the effects: confusion, faulty decisions, sin being dismissed, and more. With a deft touch, he helps readers understand and apply sound principles of interpretation and application of twenty familiar verses. This concise high-interest approach appeals to the curious as well as readers concerned about incorrect theology.
