And the other fiction categories are heavily SF. Don't see why either should be a problem, even if I might have voted (if allowed) differently. Hugo and Locus Awards still haven't closed their voting. Locus doesn't even require membership. If you'd like to see other things on a ballot or winning the awards, that's one way to do something about it.
By the way, SFWA changed its name to the "Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America" some time ago. (Never changed the acronym.) |

Haven't voted Locus, but last year was my first for the Hugo's. While I probably won't be nominating, I will be voting on Hugo this year.
Just kind of disappointed that the writers couldn't find enough "Science Fiction" novels to at least make the candidates 50/50. |

I really hope 2312 doesn't win best novel. I thought that book was a somewhat interesting setting in search of a plot.

Throne of the Crescent Moon (Saladin Ahmed) is wonderful. He also has a collection of short stories, Engraved on the Eye, available only as an eBook. Some of these are set in the same world as the novel. Magical tales set in a world of djinns and ghouls. The novel is one of the best books I've read this year.

I read The Finite Canvas by Brit Mandelo last week. Very strange story, but quite powerful. The "canvas" is not painted but engraved into the skin. I won't say no more, just that it's not for the faint-hearted.
I also have about 3 hours of listening left of The Drowning Girl by Caitlin R. Kiernan. This one is about the life of a schizophrenic writer. Kiernan is great with language and it's a pleasure to listen to this book, even though it's rather heavy stuff, at least heavier than the other two books by this author I have listened to. So far, I have read four of the nominated short stories, but none of them really stuck with me. They were good, but not great: Tom Crosshill: Fragmentation, or Ten Thousand Goodbyes Maria Dahvana Headley: Give Her Honey When You Hear Her Scream Ken Liu: The Bookmaking Habits of Select Species Cat Rambo: Five Ways to Fall in Love on Planet Porcelain |
