To anyone and every one ,I have possibly found the solution to using my Kobo Touch with Linx.
I downloaded "Calibre " ,and after installing it ,I use it to download ebooks ,pdf files ,and etc. This could possibly be the answer.. I even downloaded it to Windows ,and it works.
hope this helps.

For what it's worth, I do this too for using my Kobo with Puppy Linux.

The dropbox version appears to have been updated to 3.04. In order to get it to start in Ubuntu 12.10 64bit I hade to create links to the libicu4 files. I can't do much with it because I get an error when trying to sign in or do anything else.

/usr/local/Kobo/Kobo: symbol lookup error: /usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.8.0/lib/libQtWebKitKobo.so.4: undefined symbol: ubrk_open_44

Nice to see this is not dead though.

I thought it might be a problem with the renaming so I downloaded http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/poo....2-2_amd64.deb and installed.. still the same error.

This is a 64 bit incompatibility in the library see solution in post 321

OK I got this to work on Ubuntu 12.10 64bit.
1. download the dropbox link http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2183775/kobo-desktop.deb
2. get this file http://launchpadlibrarian.net/911281....10.1_i386.deb
3. install both debs (plus any other dependancies, see previous posts for libzip and others)
4. Kobo 3.04 linux version runs

A lot of people has done this and posted the instructions
too. The problem is not getting those files to work, but the
lack of proper support from Kobo.

Have you ever seen what the current version on MS Windows is?

Qt is supposedly an architecture agnostic programming
framework (with minor tweaks here and there), but Kobo keeps
ignoring proper GNU/Linux updates.

For you see, GNU is not a hobbyist platform. It was even
publicized the gaming platform of 2013 by the very gaming
industry (PS3 is Linux based anyway). The burden of making
things work properly (i.e., 64bit support, etc.) is on the
side of Kobo, not ours (although I already offered my help
for free some time ago and had no response).

That's why we paid for this "open" device in the first
place: usability!.

The PS3 isn't linux based, sadly. They had a small linux support at first, allowing it to run under the tight scrutiny of their hypervisor and removed it as soon as George Hotz managed to overflow the hypervisor thanks to a known electronic trick combined with a memory dumper running on linux.
So it had linux support. However all the software you normally run on a ps3 (games etc) aren't running on linux but on a Sony proprietary OS which exposes C APIs to developpers. Linux was running virtualized on this OS in a way

I guess running Android on Linux itself is called
"virtualization" after all.

Hi I did this on Ubuntu 12.10 32 bit.

1. download the dropbox link http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2183775/kobo-desktop.deb
2. get this file http://launchpadlibrarian.net/911281....10.1_i386.deb
3. install both debs (plus any other dependancies, see previous posts for libzip and others)
4. Kobo 3.04 linux version runs

BUT kobo desktop doesn't see the Kobo Touch when I connect him to the laptop.

That's the only issue, but it's important.

I'm looking forward to your help.

I have the same issue on Ubuntu 13.04 64 bits. Calibre can find the Kobo without issue but not the Kobo Desktop. Can you please tell me where/how/what the Kobo Desktop is looking for ?

A Linux Version for the Kobo is really an advantage - Thank you!

But it would be an unbelievable benefit if other Linux programs could be compiled to run on the Kobo touch.
For instance to get an email client.
