I use Xanthe's method all the time when I can't find books elsewhere (Smashwords is my favorite, no DRM to deal with) and I'm forced to buy from Amazon, and it works great. Install Calibre and then convert from mobi to epub. Google Apprentice Alf as already said.

I 'free' my books of DRM with the help of Apprentice Alf, manage them in Calibre and keep a back-up as a matter of course. And as I own both a Kindle & a Sony it's just an extra couple of buttons to press to have two copies of each book so I can read them on whichever ereader I want.

I do exactly the same download to kindle for pc then import to calibre using apprentice alf plugins. The resulting file is drm free, convert to epub and put on sony T2.

I do not sell or distribute the books.
