Yes it's a magnet but a very strong one. I have to keep anything metal far away from it or it will grab it. I don't think a Kitchen magnet is going to work.

My son just came over and he helped me figure it out. The magnet in the PW is on the lower right corner. It just so happened we had a tiny little round magnet that he had taken out of an iPad cover he had, so we used that....works like a charm! So now I have a beautiful Oberon cover with the auto on/off feature. I'm happy
