No, it's the "Samsung ATIV Smart PC 500T" and it has an x86 dual core Atom processor (Intel Clover Trail) and runs 32 bit Windows 8 Standard, as opposed to Windows RT.

X86 Windows comes in two versions, Standard (or just Windows 8) and Pro, the only difference is the Pro version has additional networking support like Active Directory, Remote Desktop, etc. that enterprise IT professionals might need. The ATIV Smart PC can be upgraded to Windows 8 Pro, but for my usage it is not worth the $69 that it would cost to do so.

It is NOT Window RT which runs on ARM chips and are meant mostly as consumption appliances like iPads and Android tablets.

^ Oooh, good to know! I guess I excluded it from my list because of the Atom processor and never gave it another thought.

How satisfied are you with the processing power? Is it obvious it is an Atom processor when you use it? And (sorry, so many questions) how long does the battery last?

How do you like the screen resolution?

Here's a good review of the Clover trail processor itself.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6522/t...-w510-tested/4

It'll give you a ballpark idea of what to expect from the Atom WinTabs...
Quote:
As you’ll see in the benchmarks to come, this five year old Atom architecture is still faster than every single ARM based core on the market today with the exception of the Cortex A15.
Essentially it is about the same as an AMD Athlon II X2 240e and somewhat fater than an old Pentium R2140. You won't be doing scientific computing but general office apps should be just fine. The Samsung runs 8-10 hours battery life. Not at all bad.

I'm not a gamer nor do I do much graphics, so for me it is adequate. I’ve owned several netbooks and this performs better than the old single core Atoms. As I said for admin kind stuff, email, and browsing it’s adequate but it’s not a powerhouse.

The up side of that is the battery life is phenomenal, from what I’ve read it’s about double of what you can expect for the Intel Core iX chips. I easily get a full workday out of it, then a number of hours of reading after work.

Not to mention being four to six hundred dollars cheaper.

They really do get you with the keyboard (on price). Who's ever heard of a $150 keyboard (specialized gaming keyboards aside). Is the technology in them that advanced?

^ Because there is no aftermarket alternative: it's the only one that attaches and detaches that way, so they can charge you an arm and a leg for it! The soft one (whatever it is called) feels like one of those iPad sleep covers - kind of neat, but will look as shabby after a while as the iPad ones that are not made of leather.
You can always just get it without the cover and use some other keyboard with it (USB or BT), but then you'd have to get some type of case for the tablet, and lug two separate things around, instead of one compact package.

No, but as xendula said it's a vertical market. Judging by the lack of availability of them, they must be selling well though.

CNET looks at the Acer Iconia W519-1422:
http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/acer...-35472859.html

Win8Pro ATOM Tablet with dockable keyboard.
10 hours battery life as a tablet, 13+ hours with the keyboard.
They take issue with the price.

For Web surfing, e-mail, and other basic tasks, it actually works fine. Doing heavy Photoshop work, trying to play even basic games, or just running too many windows at once can be frustrating. If you temper your expectations, it's acceptable, but my issue is the $750 price -- at that level, Core i3 and i5 laptops, even very slim ones, are available. With the Atom you also don't get the benefit of Intel's latest HD 4000 integrated graphics, so even low-end games will be unplayable. Is the Atom a deal breaker? No, but systems with this chip belong in a lower price category.
Of course, Acer products are readily available at a discount even at launch.
