Dogland by Will Shetterly is free today on Amazon Main UK
From Kirkus Reviews Shetterly makes the transition from young adult (Elsewhere, 1991, etc.) to adult fantasy with assurance and aplomb. In 1959, Luke and Susan Nix travel with their family--four-year-old Chris, whose narrative is informed by hindsight; Little Bit, three; and Digger, two--to Dickison, Florida, to set up a tourist attraction: Dogland, a sort of canine zoo displaying dozens of different breeds of dog, along with a restaurant and gift shop. Their supportive neighbors include Maggie DeLyon, the Seminole owner of the Fountain of Youth motel, realtor Artie Drake, and the old black cook, Ethorne Hawkins, soon hired by Luke along with Ethorne's equally hardworking family, Mayella, James, and college boy Seth. ...Compelling, absorbing, hard-edged work, lit by glimpses of another, more fantastic reality: reminiscent of top-notch Orson Scott Card, child-centered but tackling adult themes fearlessly and with great charm. |

Volumes 1 and 2 of the Mongolian trilogy by Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear, and others, are coming out today, at $2.99 for each volume. Volume 3 is $2.99 for preorder for 2/26, plus some other prequels at $.99 and $1.99 each. This started as an online serial and then was picked up by Amazon's 47North imprint.
See Conanfan's previous thread about this from May, when the first one was $.99. Quote:

Be careful with the shorts that you don't buy something you already have.
Sinner is included in Vol 1 and Dreamer in Vol 2. |

Isn't the author still alive? -- I read these when they first came out. Seems like only yesterday. Don

“How to Write the First 3 Paragraphs of YOUR Indie Novel” - by Max Waxwelp 1) Always write 3 sentences of exposition; 2) now create some dialogue, preferably no more than 2 sentences; and 3) make certain the dialogue is either inane or humorous. Example: “Bob, I did not know you wore yellow suspenders,” Sally remarked. “Gee, Sally, those are not suspenders. I am wearing yellow underwear today,” Bob revealed. The dialogue above will help produce at least 100 more pages of dialogue. |
