My wife has a Kindle Fire and we have purchased 2 Kindle Fire HD's for kids Christmas this year. We have a lot of DVD's that we would like to convert for watching on trips. There seem to be numerous converters. Which do you recommend? Need something easy for non-techie persons. Thanks

Welcome to a new board.

However, as indicated by the name MobileRead, this board is primarily about reading on a mobile computing device. From that standpoint, putting a DVD on the Kindle could be seen as distracting from reading (although a lot of people on this board do it).

Also, I don't know what country you are from, and what you are proposing to do may not be legal everywhere.

Additionally, your post doesn't fit in with the thread title, but since you are new here I don't want to push that too hard.

Maybe, not being a moderator, I shouldn't be posting like this. It's just that this is my favorite thread, and I've love to see news here of new serious Kindle-friendly (especially eInk-Kindle-friendly) links.

There is a sub-forum on MR dedicated to Calibre.

I just joined the forum and was looking to upload PDF on the kindle, are you saying that we need to convert all the files to .mobi ? That would be a huge letdown for me...

If you don't want to use Calibre to convert, just write CONVERT in your subject line when you email the content. Amazon will convert it for you. I use both Calibre and Email to Kindle functionality when I send non-Amazon books or fanfiction to my Kindle. And though Kindle CAN read PDFs, I always convert them to make them more functional in terms of font sizing and control of the document

After being down for several months, most of the news links in #145 and #146 again work. And the US weather instructions in #144 again work. Thank you to Robin Gardner for fixes to font-stabilization site www.readingthenet.com.

Here is a readingthenet-enabled url that is a true Link Every Kindle Owner Should Have:

Here's a good trick that I use:

I place all my pdfs in my dropbox folder and view them thru their mobile site.
