This is definitely on my TBR list.

My favorite read this year was probably Follett's The Pillars of the Earth.

I had no five-star reads last year. I guess I'm picky. I had a bunch of four-star reads, and the ones that entertained me the most were His Majesty's Dragon, Gone Girl, and The Power of Habit.

My favourite book of 2012 was Cold Days by Jim Butcher.

Second and third were Tai-Pan by James Clavell and The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell.

I am glad that I read Mansfield Park and Persuasion thanks to book club recommendations. I didn't really like Pride and Prejudice so I had avoided Austen's other works. However, I enjoyed both of these and now have a new perspective of this author.

The best book I read in 2012 that was published in 2012 was probably Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

Jane Austen is one of my all-time favorite authors. I love them all!! Have you tried Emma or Northanger Abbey?

My favorite (and most anticipated) book of 2012 was definitely Cold Days (Dresden Files #14) by Jim Butcher.

I am a fan of Flynn, and Gone Girl is on my TBR pile. However, it's gotten really mixed reviews, not just folks disappointed in the ending (which I can deal with), but many pan the characters as well as awful, unpleasant, etc. saying of the main couple, "I couldn't stand either of them - they deserved each other!"

Yes, it's true, they are awful. But I thought they were fun to hate. And I actually liked the ending. I am someone who hated the ending of Into the Woods, so if you've read that one, just know that the ending is nothing like that. Gone Girl was one of my favorites of 2012: not great literature, just a very fun read.
