I wonder what Apple is going to do about this. It seems like they've already surrendered to the will of the people by increasing the length with the latest iteration. I wonder if the next one will be even larger or if they're going to hold the line.

That chart is wrong. You have overlapping numbers so that makes the entire chart incorrect and invalid. May as well just delete it.

The problem Apple has is the accessories. If Apple does what's right and makes it wider, then it definitely won't fit in the docks/speaker systems and that means that manufacturers will have to make yet more new devices for the new phone. Apple is in a lose lose situation unless they include a dock with each phone that then connects to the speaker system or whatever so the current models can be discontinued and new accessories made only once.

I think Barclays and other analysts are right. Apple will bend further to the pressures of market forces and come out with a 4.5-5" iPhone by mid-2014, if not this year.

Excellent point. But has backward compatibility with third-party accessories prevented Apple from changing their designs in the past? I think selling product will be more important to them than pissing off customers with older iPhone docking accessories.
