ComiXology is giving away a different issue for free every day between Dec 7 and Dec 18. (Link: http://blog.comixology.com/spotlight/) Today's is Avengers Assemble #1.

They've also got an "all-ages comics" sale which ends tonight, with 99¢-and-up issues of the likes of Archie, Bone, and presumably less-adult-themed supers. A few of these issues are free, including the first issue (not the first omnibus volume, which is $5) of Bone. If you have pre-reading-age kids, or just appreciate a good kids' book, take a look at Owly.

ComiXology has iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire-specific apps available.

It changed at 1PM, so if you got in early this morning you got Avengers. If not, you get Green Lantern.

Sadly, I didn't arrive before 1PM, so I missed out on Avengers...and yesterday's Avengers vs XMen. Gonna keep a watch on this to see if any other comics that interest me come up during the giveaway.

A bit OT, but for those of you that regularly buy books from these guys is there a way to back up your stuff like you can with an eBook?

I'm looking at their TOS and it seems to me that if they lose their deal with a publisher then you could be out of luck as far as reading stuff you've paid for (bolds are mine)...

With stuff from 2000AD you get a PDF and CBZ copy which means you'll have access even if the publisher or distributor go under. Any way to get stuff from other publishers that way?

I've stayed away from digital comics except for freebies so far because there doesn't appear to be a way to ensure I'll have access to my content in the future if I want to re-read something (also I think a lot of prices are too high, but that's a different issue).

There are plenty of ways to do it for those inclined. If nothing else people can take screen shots as they view the books.
