I was doing a spreadsheet of all the series I've been reading lately. I'm putting the book titles and publication dates on the spread and came across the oddest thing. One, it's ridiculous to find publication dates for Dresden Novels. Two, the link in the first post here http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=111 I believe is incorrect. Unless these are some re-release dates for the ebooks or something. Wikipedia has these books publishing all over the place. See below from Alan's post I linked to above:

2 Fool Moon [2008 July 1]
3 Grave Peril [2008 November 4]
4 Summer Knight [2009 July 7]
5 Death Masks [2009 November 3]

Those are hardback release dates, not original publication dates. To quote the Beatles, originally Jim Butcher was a 'Paperback Writer'!

I bought it, too. But, when I told a friend of my plan to read it out of order (I still haven't read Changes yet) he was so horrified that I promised to save it until I'm caught up

Definitely read both Changes and Ghost Story before Cold Days! I wasn't going to read Ghost Story but everyone here convinced me to do it and I am very thankful .

I am currently reading Cold Days, but reading goes slowly. Not because of the writing, but of my lack of time. Only about 100 pages to go... I really like the book, although I am not too fond of some things. But, I have the suspicion it is there for a reason...

Ok, so i finished Dead Beat yesterday and still can't bring myself to start Proven Guilty. The end again is a complete surprise, as it was with all books so far. But I can't stop thinking of why some things were said. Rest of the post going to be a spoiler, actually a pretty big one of you have not finished Dead Beat.

WARNING: DO NOT OPEN IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED DEAD BEAT

This is the threat that Harry makes to Mavra. Part of me wants to actually see it happen, all of it, at the same time, just to see / read it. But then, this cannot be. If all that happens it would be the end of Harry as we know him up to this point.

Bold is mine, which I believe to be wrong if Harry freewilly chooses to do so.

I stared at her for a full ten seconds before I said, in a very quiet voice, "I've got a fallen angel tripping all over herself to give me more power. Queen Mab has asked me to take the mantle of Winter Knight twice now. I've read Kemmler's book. I know how the Darkhallow works. And I know how to turn necromancy against the Black Court."

Mavra's filmed eyes flashed with anger.

I continued to speak quietly, never raising my voice. "So once again, let me be perfectly clear. If anything happens to Murphy and I even think you had a hand in it, fuck right and wrong. If you touch her, I'm declaring war on you. Personally. I'm picking up every weapon I can get. And I'm using them to kill you. Horribly."

I suspect some of that to happen later in the series (in fact I know of one thing that will happen). That does not bother me so much. What bothers me: Why did Harry make the threat if deep down he knows it is against his beliefs to actually do it? At least all at once, on purpose.

It is very dramatic, and I loved reading it. So much that I re-read the whole scene imediately after again for effect. But it is so wrong. Am I evil? Or is Harry's evil at this point?
