Yes, you can sideload without rooting as the Nook HD(+) has the option to enable ADB debugging in settings. All you need is the Android SDK (or a subset thereof), and the drivers to talk to the tablet, and you're golden. The color did not have the ADB option in settings, so you had to root it.

Do you mean accessible from the UI? You'll probably have to sideload an alternative launcher.

There's also a "secret" app drawer where all the sideloaded stuff apparently goes. I haven't played with it too much myself as I don't have anything sideloaded yet, but it's not hard to access.

That much I knew, I meant from the stock UI.

The combination of needing ADB to sideload and the "secret app drawer" was enough to take the HD+ off my list.

At my husband's company, they just got a set of Nexusses... (the 7" one). Every single one his colleagues that was playing with it said: I like the size better than that 10"! Naturally, I've been saying that for 2 years already...

At home, we both have our wifi 7" tablets (HTC and Lenovo) and we're both very happy with it. But they'll never ever replace our desktop PCs.
