Problems converting epub books
I just tried converting a number of sample books off Adobe's website (via Digital Editions) and it was a bit of a hit and miss affair: 'Thirteen Moons' and an extract of 'Hot' converted OK. 'The Father Thing' and 'Death and the Senator' failed. Error logs follow: Quote:

I'm having trouble finding links to these books, but did find another thread on mobileread noting that they fail Adobe's own epubcheck EPUB-compliance-checking tool. It's quite possible these books are malformed, but if DE reads them calibre should probably just give a warning and keep on going... Could you post or PM me a link to these books? Thanks.

They sure made downloading the books a pain -- you need to have ADE installed, which meant booting a Windows VM yada yada.
In any case, I took a look at the Alice in Wonderland book and it's completely missing the 'mimetype' file indicating that the containing ZIP archive is in fact an EPUB ebook. If those two ADE sample books are the only "EPUB" books with with this problem, then I don't think calibre -- or other EPUB tools -- should treat them as EPUB books. You can mostly-fix them yourself by adding a file named "mimetype" containing just the string "application/epub+zip" (no newline at the end) to the ZIP archives. http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...501#post129662 |

Well ADE is set up for DRM so yeah they don't make things too easy
![]() I wonder how many of the first EPUB books will be malformed in this way and how they can be detected (except for the .epub filename)? Quote:

. As long as it's in the root directory and contains the right MIME type, calibre's EPUB-parsing code will handle it. Not a guarantee of future behavior, but enough to get those files working now.

I've tried epub2lrf several times with books from Feedbooks and it always worked quite well.
