Also I think jnedge's suggestion for a two-part manual is good. But whatever you decide on I'll be cheering...as always from the sidelines! ![]() Meant to ask: the weekly class you mentioned, is that thru the forum or "in-person"? I would think the hardware and software would warrant separate sections, but of the same manual.

First let me thank all of you for your feedback and interest.
At the moment we have three sections. The hardware including replacing things like power sockets and on off switch as well as the serial interface. The various software updates including possible pitfalls and the way to back out if necessary. General information including the registration screen bypass and selecting apps that work including the reasons why newer apps might not (this bit of information supplied by my programmer). Any suggestions of anything you think should be included in those sections in welcome. @CharlieBird. Sorry but the class takes place in my office on Friday afternoons unless a client has big problems when they take precedence. I don't know if making it a community effort would work with the actual physical production but as I said this is a community product because all of you on this forum are the source of the information I'm using. That sounds great, Ivan!
However you want to organize it and however much you want to put in -- all good! All I would ask for is an index and/or a table of contents or some way to search, which I'm sure you're already including. ![]() What a great idea to turn it into a class!

Can the 10" Edge be updated with any downloads here or elsewhere? More specifically, for anyone with a 10", can you address the responsiveness of the resistive side of the tablet? Before I gave my 7" to a young boy (who loves it but misses "apps"), I found that the resistive side disappointed me. This could have been because I used a screen protector to keep the glass from scratching.
Thank you for any links or information provided. |

Go to: Settings -> About Edge and look at the Build Number. If it says Ermine-0.9 then you are at the latest version for your EE. If it says Dingo-xxx (where xxx is some number) then you can update to Ermine. The sticky threads give all the information on how to do that, just MAKE SURE you get the correct version of Ermine for the EE or you will have a BIG problem. BTW what panel are you referring as the resistive panel, the e-ink or the LCD? The LCD is resistive and the e-ink uses Wacom tablet technology, hence the special active stylus. |

IvanJT--
Thank you. I was unaware that the LCD side was resistive; I thought it was merely capacitive. But I'm referring to the e-ink side. There are 10" for auction on Ebay, and I would consider bidding for the e-ink side alone. Clearly, the abilities of the capacitive, under Ermine, are severely limited. (I am confused still about your use of "resistive," which I thought applied only to the ability to use a stylus.) |

The Edge does not use capacitive technology at all. Resistive screen technology allow the use of almost any object to react with the screen be it finger, stylus, credit card edge, coin edge etc. It uses a technology that has two layers that when pressed together indicate to the controller the exact point of contact. On the other hand a capacitive only works with a finger or a special capacitive stylus - therefore ideal for things like phones that are put in a pocket. The e-ink screen uses an active Wacom digitiser technology that requires an active stylus - that is one that has a resonant electronic circuit in it and will not work with anything else. If you lose the stylus that came with the Edge you can continue to use the LCD screen but the e-ink screen is limited to what you can do with the buttons only - no note taking, highlighting etc. To replace the stylus you must look for one that is listed as Wacom pen enabled, if you want full use of the e-ink screen whereas a knitting needle would work on the LCD. (Note to self - expand on this in e-book) |

@ivanjt--
Is it permissible to ask questions in foreign languages here--I mean specifically here on the E.E. forum? I wouldn't have (first) put up my Pocket Edge for sale, or (then) given it away to a young boy if I could have remained on Mobileread, because there truly is no other site where comparable information is available. I would still like to get a 10" Edge. The reason for this: the Pocket Edge is so heavy, and I never was able to get the e-ink side to calibrate in a way that reproduced accurate handwriting. I don't know if the technology in the 10" would be demonstrably different. However, the "real estate" of 10" versus 7" impacted note-taking; and, if I ever find a reasonably priced 10" anywhere, I would definitely be willing to ascribe the stylus accuracy problems to exactly that--too small a tablet on the 7". Thank you. |

The big problem with asking questions in a language other than English is that you are very unlikely to get an answer. Other than that I can't say, after all all I do here is try and help people with problems as do all the other contributors.
You do realise the full size Edge is about 1.5 kg. As for accuracy with the use of the stylus. Most people that have problems do not do the calibration correctly. This is because they don't know how the stylus works and logically think that holding it vertically will give better results when calibrating. In fact you should hold the stylus as you would in normal use. As you say the 10" screen size has many advantages especially for what I use my EE for I very much doubt that I would find an PE useful - reading PDF manuals and making notes on site visits. |

Ivanjt--
I didn't know that holding the stylus would give any special advantage to calibration; thank you for that information. I wonder if this is true throughout the gamut of technology that use styluses, because, no longer having my PE, and not willing to pay the $250 for a used non-returnable EE for sale on Ebay, I was looking at plain old Wacom tablets for photo-editing use. By the way, I'd deeply appreciate any references to sites where EE's from reputable owners might be available. I dislike Ebay. I use Ebay all the time, but I dislike it for its wretched customer service. |
