How do you return library books?
I have no clue if I do this on my Sony e-reader or on the computer? Anyone can help me with this?

Re-download the library books on your Sony device. Then when they're on there go to Books so you can see all the books on the device & press the menu button. You'll see an option to Return Books. Touch that and then select the books you want to return.
Then those books will be returned to the library for someone else to use & you can borrow other books.

Just FYI for those who use their computers to transfer books to their readers--
If you use Adobe "Digital Editions" on your computer you can return them from within there. Just right-click on the cover and choose "return item" (or something like that). I don't use the Sony Reader desktop software so don't know if there is any way to return them from within it. dordale

You can also return library books using the Sony Reader for PC software. Highlight the book you want to return, click on More Actions (at the bottom of the page) and select Return Borrowed Book.
I always return books that way because using the T1 WiFi locks to return library books works but sometimes locks up my reader and forces me to reset. |

Our local libraries don't have a return option. The expiration is simply used.

You sure about that? If the library uses Overdrive then there's a return option. As far as I know, it's not dependent on the specific library.

I agree with Shopaholic--as long as your library uses overdrive for their e-book lending program, books should be able to be returned early. I'm not sure about books for the Kindle, though. Also not sure how other lending programs (like the new 3m program) work, though.

Kindle library books can be returned using Amazon's "Manage Your Kindle".

I have seen several posts where some Overdrive libraries do not allow early returns. I suppose it's something your local library can control just like maximum number of books, checkout times and hold redemption times can vary.

Bookworm_Girl--you could be right. Don't know why libraries wouldn't want to allow patrons to return books early if they wanted to. Also, I do know that there is no way to return Overdrive audio books early.

Wow, I'm glad my library doesn't ban early returns! I'm a pretty fast reader and I return most of my books early. And occasionally a book that looked good in the description turns out to be really boring and I want to get rid of it and try another - I'd hate to be stuck with a book I didn't even like for 14 days.
It also doesn't seem fair to the people who are on waiting lists for the books. Last edited by 4691mls; 11-23-2012 at 01:32 PM. Reason: added a sentence |

But if you had a library that doesn't allow early returns, that book would still be taking up one of your allowed loans for the full loan period, preventing you from checking out a book you might like better.

Some libraries allow you to choose how long you are going to keep the book before you download it. I know mine allows a 7 day check out, so if you are a fast reader that might be an option too.
