Oh sorry - yes, that's what we meant - the email gift certificates. Tend to forget that everyone doesn't know that.

It is a good way to budget your book spending. Plus, you don't have all those little charges on your credit card, since Amazon doesn't have a cart either.

I am sure you did. The part you quoted was more talking to myself. For the longest time I did not like Amazon for really no reason at all. You got walled gardens no matter which reader you pick. And please don't tell me how superior epub is, that argument might or might not have been true pre-KF8. Now with KF8 there is practically no difference any more.

You won't get any argument from me on that. lol

Amazon does have the best selection and customer service out there, IMO.

Although not as big as Amazon, I buy a lot from Smashwords. Lots of formats available and no DRM.

The OP is talking about UK-based, and as far as I know, you can't buy Amazon gift vouchers in shops for cash here in the UK.

I've never seen them. If they are available, can someone say from where?

I've never noticed any myself, but according to this thread in the Amazon forums, you can buy Amazon gift cards in Wilkinsons, Clinton Cards & Sainsburys.

You can. I always ask for Amazon gift vouchers for birthdays/Christmas. Sainsbury's sell them.
