Is it just me or does the Library Journal review contain a spoiler? I've never noticed them doing that before, the amazon blurb doesn't mention it, it seems to me to be a key piece of information.

Now that you mention it, I think it does contain a spoiler. The Amazon description contains no spoilers, but the Library Journal review is right under it.

Blue Murder is listed as one of Colin Watson's titles at Fantastic Fiction and on the wiki page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Watson_%28writer%29 - which is probably a part of the confusion. Dunne isn't nearly as prolific or well known (this is assuming that Amazon linked in the author page and that the publisher didn't just screw it up themselves).

Endeavour's website is a mess - no author list or titles list, just a running blog-like listing of books.

IIRC, I think Library Journal reviews tend to have more spoilers. From what I remember, it's because they're written for librarians, who won't have the time to read the books but who need the spoilers when it comes go recomending the books. ("Jane might like this book. Oh, wait, the LJ review says the ghosts turn out to be fake, and she hates those stories...")

Ummm, really? Must be some small town librarians.

I always thought they did that so that the librarian could fake that she'd read it (like mini-cliff notes).

I don't think I ever had a librarian recommend a title, after I was, say, old enough to read, at which point I picked them out myself (librarians recommended the worst possible reading, in my experience, despite having lots of great things to read at their fingertips, which they apparently never opened).

We frequent 3 libraries. At one, the librarians are very friendly, and perfectly willing to discuss a particular book & make recommendations-- making that library, of course, my preferred one despite it's smaller size. Some winners, some losers (for me), but without a doubt better than analyzing the dust jacket blurb with no other input.
I've never had any worthwhile interaction from major book store chains, either. But I've had great advice from specialty bookshops & used book stores, and found authors that I really enjoy.
