We’re probably three or so weeks away from SECOND SHIFT – ORDER being available on the Kindle store. It could be a week longer, as there are many rough patches to smooth over, and one of the more complex plots I’ve ever tried to weave together. Once again, no Jules in this one. She’ll be back in the 9th Silo Story.

After the break, you can read the rough draft of chapter one. I did this with FIRST SHIFT, just to give you a feel for the new story. I’m also thinking about doing the beta read a bit differently this time. I’ve considered creating a Google document that a dozen or so readers and editors could access at the same time, leave notes on, see what each other thinks and comments on. I’ve also thought about serializing the editing process by sending out an entire section as I get it done, let the betas read that while I’m revising the next part. It’d be fun to experiment.

Okay, don’t continue further unless you feel like reading a rough draft of chapter 1. Some of you probably already skipped all this nonsense and went straight for it. This is me sticking my tongue out at you people: :P

Keep in mind that this is rough draft material. I included the title, dedication, and section page as images because WordPress is crap at whitespace. The first chapter follows those pages.

Since the later Gideon Oliver novels are not available in ebook in the UK, and Fictionwise had another 60% off sale, I got his other books that were available there. I hope this will be as enjoyable as the Gideon Oliver series.

I finished reading Diane Duane's So You Want to Be a Wizard, New Millennium Edition. It was a fun read and I will probably get my grandson the Young Wizards International Edition, Complete Set (9 books) for Christmas. It's really affordable at $39.99 and DRM-free as well.

Now back to The Dresden Files, White Night!

White Night was as exciting and suspenseful as it gets! Just loved this re-read!!

I'm now beginning a re-read of The Dresden Files #10, Small Favor.



This will leave me 3 more Dresden Files novels to re-read before D-day (Dresden-day) 2012, November 27th, the release date for The Dresden Files #14, Cold Days!

Just finished The Unlike Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce, and really enjoyed it surprisingly. Not my normal cup of tea, but really liked the change coming over him and his wife as they both took time to think back on their loves and lives.

Finishing up Jeffrey Ford's latest collection -- Crackpot Palace. Twenty stories (nineteen published previously and one written expressly for this collection). This former American Lit teacher is now firmly one of my all-time favorite short-story writers. So very versatile. Sometimes a little weird but still quite accessible ... not to mention lyrical.

I finished rereading Justin Cronin's The Passage yesterday. I had forgotten a lot of what happened in the two years since I've read it. It was a good read and I still stand by my critique that the middle part could have done with some editing to keep the pace up.

Last night I started The Twelve, I've read about 10% and I can't wait to continue.
