Forbes Magazine publishes an annual list of the highest-earning estates of no-longer-living people. From the most recent (2011) list:

- One point for each correct name
- One point for getting the person's (or rather the estate's) 2011 earnings correct to within the nearest $5 million for amounts over $10 million, or the nearest $1 million for amounts of $10 million or less.

Elizabeth Taylor has got to be on that list somewhere. But when you say 2011, is she qualified?

How does Forbes compare these people? Since they are dead, and probably died in different times, do they compare average earnings and adjust for inflation, or do they just compare the highest yearly income in these peoples career?

Elizabeth Taylor is correct - she's on the list at number 5 equal.

I edited my initial post to make it less confusing. The figure is the estate's earnings for the twelve months to October 2011.

The previous quiz was what reminded me of this list, because Tolkien was on it the previous year. I suspect his estate will be again when the Hobbit movies start coming out.

But no, not on the 2011 list. Dr Seuss was, though! Theodor Geisel at #8.

I'm with you. I still have not read The Hobbit nor Lord of the Rings, and have no interest in doing so. I've tried several times to read the Dresden books, but can't get past the first 50 pages... That sort of magical world holds no appeal for me. I wish it did. I have a lot of reportedly wonderful reading available, but alas...
