Any way to connect to Ad Hoc network?

the K3 will not connect to an Ad-Hoc network by design, any hacks that allow this?

I am trying to make Calibre available via WiFi without an Infrastructure network (i.e. riding in a car, or in a Hotel where I choose not to connect to their WiFi)

thoughts?

I second this question!

I saw somewhere people were playing with connecting to WPA supplicant network.. curious if there was any work on ad-hoc.

i went cheap any got my fiancee the kindle wifi since she has wifi tether on her android. but it only does ad-hoc.

why would kindle care?

thanks!

I am looking for a way to do this too...I specifically got the wifi only version figuring I could just tether it to my Droid if I needed to. :-(
Has there been any work on a hack for this?

I know you can set the chipset to ad-hoc mode by
/etc/init.d/wifi stop
/etc/init.d/wifi --mode ibss

However the kindle os still doesn't allow connecting to ad-hoc, so you have to us iwconfig
iwconfig wlan0 essid yournetworkhere

I don't know if security (wep/wpa) is supported by the chipset or not. I think the reason they don't have ad-hoc support is that wep doesn't work with ad-hoc. I also don't know if this method is for creating an ad-hoc network or joining one. I haven't tested it.

In order to make the browser work, did you try issuing the command:
dbus-send --system /default com.lab126.wifid.cmConnected

after much messing about with stuff from this thread and elsewhere, i've got my k4 connected to my ad-hoc network (mobile phone hotspot, joikuspot), and i can ping, wget etc, but the framework/browser won't acknowledge the connection... the above command doesn't work, does anyone know anything else that might? thanks
