I'm keeping an eye out, in case they take Amazon's dare and price it at US$249.
(I expect them to go for $349, which is more inline with their past pricing philosophy of pricing their "entry-level" high and relatively close to their mid-range product to up-sell buyers.)

With the screen expected to be plain old iPad XGA resolution, the weight is going to have to be very low to interest me in it as a color ebook reader, but I'm keeping the option in mind.

The symbol on the button is a square, albeit with rounded corners.

The pixelation makes me suspect photoshopping. It could be a 'concept' photo, but I'm (totally guessing) it's not a real product photo.

My thoughts exactly. The ipad seems to be more out of focus than the hand, though they are on pretty much the same plane.

I can't see it being a penny less than $349.99. Yeah, an XGA screen sounds about right, that would set the stage for the obvious upgrade to the retina. No, thank you.

That photo is of a physical mockup based on leaked specifications/rumors, not a 'leaked' photo.

I don't quite get the appeal of a smaller tablet. Maybe for reading books (though I prefer the 2 page ibooks view when I read on my ipad). But for what else would one prefer this over a regular ipad? I guess portability due to size? If so, I'll just stick with my phone.

I don't think it's real, even if it was I don't think I'd want one. The current ipad size is about as small as I'd want to go with a tablet (although thinner/lighter always valued). Although there's wiggle room if the aspect ratio moved more towards 16:9 than 4:3.

The only reason I like eInk devices to be midway between phone and tablet size is that the phone is a little too small for long reading sessions and the extra space of a tablet doesn't add anything for fiction, that's only useful for certain reference books or apps etc

tl;dr iPad doesn't need to become smaller, just lighter imo.

Oops I forgot that Apple doesn't "do" new iPads in the same cycle as new iPhones, so I guess we just have to wait a bit longer But yes $299 for the iPod Touch 32gb doesn't leave much room for competitive pricing of a 7" iPad, if such is ever released.
