Oh, about 70-80% of internet users, give or take a few dozen million.

Not that it is even slightly relevant here: Amazon is using the BING Search engine to replace Google search results (and ads) with BING results (and ads). They are *not* replacing *their* SILK browser with anything from Microsoft, just feeding BING results through SILK. In return for a piece of MS ad revenue.

As is, Amazon is *not* using Google Play, Google Maps (they have a deal with Nokia), or Google Search.

As I said, the FIRE is not a particularly Google-ish product even if it uses android in its plumbing.

Further to fjtorres' point, Android isn't actually the 'Google OS' as such. Rather, Android is essentially an open source Linux distribution whose primary developer is Google. It's just that the Android we see on most Android devices has Google's closed source apps sitting on top. If you try CyanogenMod some time, you'll see what I mean.

Kind of off-topic, but I thought worth mentioning.

Not off-topic at all but rather it goes to the heart of the matter: vendors are not obliged to use Google's Apps or interface. They can swap components in and out at will. Most vendors are too lazy or too poor to do so but Amazon is neither. And as they are showing by example, replacements exist for everything Google-proprietary in the "standard" Android distro.
One can argue that Amazon is just setting Android free of Google just as LibreOffice set OpenOffice free of Oracle.

Bingo! Microsoft bastards putting more and more of its IP on Android devices so they can make more money off it.

BTW, I like how Microsoft never feels tired of copying and recycling ideas. I just realized their Bing logo have a "beta" just like Google used to put on its products for very long...
