Free whispernet on a real tablet isn't going to happen.

I think Amazon announcing themselves as running an MVNO service for the Kindle Fire with 3g or the like would be more likely. There's been rumors about Amazon getting into the phone business all year - I think it more likely they start selling data packages to go with their Kindle Fire than going for the cellphone market.

oh, that would be soooo tempting. I've got a K3-3G with a lighted cover, but a self-lighted kindle with touch screen but also page turn buttons on the side... I *might* be able to talk the Lord of the Exchequer into it... except that I start a new job on Monday, it'll be 6 weeks before I see any money (2-week pay cycle, net 30 days), and that first pay check goes to getting my son a portable (more useful for school than a tablet). *sigh*

I wanted to get a Touch 3G, but there are none left, so I really hope that
1. There will be a new e-ink KIndle, not just a new Fire (not interested at all in a tablet)
2. It will be 3G
3. It will have a glow light
4. And pretty please, can it have buttons too ?
5. Last, but not least : make it available from day 1 in Europe.

If all is in there, I will click that buy now button not once, but twice (I need a device for a friend, and I will get one for me too).
If it is not available in Europe, that will be a real bummer....

My wife is awfully jealous of my Nook ST glow. She's been waiting for the announcement of a front-lit kindle for months.

Doesn't help that the kids bent the pins on her lighted case so it tends to flicker off at times.
