PAR files? If there was a list of mistakes in a book I wanted to read I would just edit them myself. Unless there was thousands of them, then I'd probably just read something else instead.

Well, if the reader read ePub and used Calibre and stripped DRM, then the answer is that fixing the eBooks would be trivial.

Yes...ish. One, I just wanted to point out (tongue-in-cheek?) that this is really inviting people to break the DRM. Never said it was "hard" to do so, just - well, I don't want to go there.

Second, I guess it would depend on how errors are reported.
If it's just one error, it would be trivial indeed to fix.
But if there are pages upon pages of mistakes (LOTR anyone?), it will become a real pain.
Unless people post working regular expressions to fix the errors automatically?

But wouldn't that require the ebooks to be *exactly* identical? So the PAR file would be tied to a particular vendor - and even then, wouldn't the included DRM prevent it?

(I don't know much about Parchives, just the general concept.)

I'm not sure if it would or not, the vast majority of an ebook is in the text and cover images, those would be the same for each vendor. Everything else, including DRM, would be seen as a fault.

Well this is your thread so you would be the logical choice, or did/do you have a better way of doing it? I know thatyou are really concerned on this topic, and seemed to be offering a solution, but I am unclear on what it was you were offering.

Wiki has been suggested as a host, which may or not be practical.

I admire you for even dreaming of taking on such a chore.

Here another list of errors. This one is fairly large. It's for Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters. This is from my 650. I've changed the page numbers to chapters to make it easier to find the errors.

Time for some surprising errors. Surprising because previous books in the Dresden series have had way more errors then this.

Chapter Five: Val-kyrie should not have the dash
Chapter Fifteen: Mc-Donald’s should not have the dash

This is from a paperback I took on holiday, but I'd guess they will be in the ebook too if there is one.

p44: 2 men, one blind, one sighted, are walking down a dark tunnel. "They could see the emergency lights."

p51: "the girl seemed to realised what was happening."

p93: woman lights a cigarette with a match, but on the previous page she uses a cigarette lighter.

The copy of "Perdido Street Station" I purchased from Kobo books has had, so far, about twenty chapters duplicated verbatim. The mind boggles.
