Maybe Tom Cruise could play the role of the young 13-year old Jack Reacher in a movie adaptation of Lee Child's short-story "Second Son".

This. I watched the trailer and as soon as I heard Cruise's voice, I had to stop. I love Tom Cruise and think he makes excellent action movies but Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher? Ugh.

I'm sure it'll probably still be an excellent movie but it'll be a Tom Cruise blockbuster action movie rather than Jack Reacher action movie.

Hmmm.... if memory serves me right Anne Rice was more than a little upset when Tom Cruise was cast as Lestat in Interview with a Vampire but that IMHO was a good movie and he played the part well.

The thing here is that every single book makes reference to the 250 pounds and the 6.5" of Jack-none-Reacher, plus some books also reference the 50" chest. For anybody who's read the books, having a midget playing Reacher does not compute. Of course, those who haven't read the books couldn't care less.

I think that it would still matter. You can see in the trailer that he has to look up to meet the eyes of his opponent.


I don't see how they can make it believable that he would get the same kind of reaction from people as the book-version character.

It appears they're opting for the "psycho badass" approach... which isn't really Reacher either. Why didn't they just call this movie/character something else?

Of course it probably won't matter anyway. People who don't know Reacher will go to see the latest Cruise action blockbuster... and Reacherites will all pay for a ticket to earn the right to say; "yep... Tom Cruise ain't Jack Reacher." It's win-win for the movie makers.
