Tools This forum has a new "prefix" tool.

When you create a new thread, you can now assign a prefix to it, indicating its primary category. The choices are:

K2 - Kindle 2
K3 - Kindle 3
DX(G) - Kindle DX (White) and DX Graphite
K4 - Kindle 4 (K4NT)
K5 - Kindle 5 (Touch)
Hardware - Hardware hacks and mods
Tools - Software and hardware tools (and documents)
Kindlet - Java apps
WAF - HTML/Javascript apps
Native - Standalone (non-framework) "native-mode" scripts and C programs

These are the same categories that are used in the "Master Index" sticky thread.

As you can see, this thread has a "Tools" prefix.

It would be helpful if the original creators of old threads would submit a list of their old threads and which prefix they would like each of them to have. Please post your lists to this thread. We will gather these lists into a master list and submit that to the site moderators.

Yes, some of us are watching. Just post your requests here for your own threads (as geekmaster suggested), and the changes will get made.

In case you did not notice, you can now select a prefix before clicking the "Show Threads" button at the top of the forum threads list, and you will then see a list containing only threads that have the selected prefix.

This will be more useful after the most useful old threads get prefixed. Also, threads with prefixes should ALSO be placed into the corresponding index wiki page (linked to the Master Index sticky thread).

Why doesn't the main Kindle forum have new device specific prefixes? A lot of threads there are related to specific devices and don't have to do with the other ones. It just seems silly not to put the proper prefixes there as well.

There are some threads that have names starting with a 'prefix' like [Kindle Touch], [KT], etc. I think these could be processed w/o a request from their owners.

• [KT] Backgammon, pretty please?
• [Kindle Touch] 5.1.1 Firmware
• KinGo: A viewer and editor for the game of Go [Kindle Touch]
• ...etc

Also some others have some 'hints' in their names

• Pidgin chat client on Kindle Touch
• Text-to-Speech languages on K Touch
• Kindle Touch 5.1, Jailbreak, and Screensaver Hack
• Kindle touch won't go into diagnostic mode
• ...etc

I think no need to wait for these.

We'd rather has specific requests. It would also help if requests could include links to the threads so that the mods don't have to search for them.

Because only in the dev forum are most of the threads specific to a limited model. In the general forum, threads generally apply to all kindles.

When a thread (in the general Kindle section) applies to all Kindles, no prefix. But when a thread does apply (like questions on a specific firmware version), then the prefix can be used. Is it really that hard to add prefixes?

I've added prefixes to obvious threads in the first three pages of current threads. Obviously, if you notice something mis-labelled, or also want a title change, just comment here or report the thread.
