Thank you, Jon, for noticing that.

Would you be so kind as to supply the corrected links?

I've bought it some time ago and read it. It was a fascinating diversion from the usual book reading, but I wouldn't want to see every book formatted that way. It was kind of fun for a change, though; not unlike anchovies on a pizza. About once or twice a year, I get a craving that can only be satisfied by salty fishes. Then I'm good for several months. I'm about ready for another interactive book.

I third Fer de Lance by Rex Stout. Not sure if it can be considered a classic, but it has a very unusual ending for a mystery story that I didn't see coming.

And can someone second and third Discourse on the Method? Don't let the fact that it's philosophy or that it's nearly 400 years old throw you. It's short, very readable, and still controversial after all those years.

That would be a second for Discourse on the Method, unless I've missed something.

Count me as the third for Descartes. I somehow missed it when scanning through the thread earlier.

I third, therefore I am.

I'm not sure it's possible as the only links we get from a search uses an ID that expires.

First Nomination: Charles Dickens' Hard Times

from Amazon:

Coketown is dominated by the figure of Mr Thomas Gradgrind, school headmaster and model of Utilitarian success. Feeding both his pupils and family with facts, he bans fancy and wonder from any young minds. As a consequence his obedient daughter Louisa marries the loveless businessman and 'bully of humanity' Mr Bounderby, and his son Tom rebels to become embroiled in gambling and robbery. And, as their fortunes cross with those of free-spirited circus girl Sissy Jupe and victimized weaver Stephen Blackpool, Gradgrind is eventually forced to recognize the value of the human heart in an age of materialism and machinery.

@ Jon - Thank you. I'll see about getting single links in, when I have time.

@ Mims - welcome and great first post.

Nominations are closed, as we now have 10 fully nominated books.

Thanks, everyone.
