Maurice Sendak dies. (Where the Wild Things Are)

Quote:
DANBURY, Conn. (AP) - Maurice Sendak, the children's book author and illustrator who saw the sometimes-dark side of childnood in books like "Where the Wild Things Are" and "In the Night Kitchen," has died. He was 83.

Longtime friend and caretaker Lynn Caponera says she was with him when he died early Tuesday at a hospital in Danbury, Conn. She says he had a stroke on Friday.

"Where the Wild Things Are" earned Sendak a prestigious Caldecott Medal for the best children's book of 1964 and became a hit movie in 2009.

Sad. That was one of my very first favorite books.

I'm more of a "Little Bear" fan myself. Very sad to lose anyone directly linked to fond childhood memories.

Sigh... I read this on another news feed this morning. My 4-year-old LOVES looking at the pictures in that book.

I never cared for Where the Wild Things Are, but it is still a sad day when someone dies who touched so many people's childhoods.

I have fond memories of reading Where the Wild Things Are to my daughter when she was young.

Sad to hear the news.. but lucky to have had the opportunity to share his wonderful works with my children.. He was a very unique illustrator and author! Thank you "Maurice Sendak, author of the classic children's book "Where the Wild Things Are," ....."

A really gifted artist. Though I didn't care for the story of WTWTA, I still read Little Bear to my own kids.

I never liked it when a child though some of my friends did.
Later when I looked at it over the years, I realized I detested it.
Some of my own more intellectual children loved it and others didn't see that much in it.

I saw the movie. It only reminded me I hated it.

The only real reason I found to look at it over the years was to
try and get sense from the pictures.
