Not installing latest version
I decided to install 0.8.47, but when I checked calibre.exe properties it said version 0.8.33. I uninstalled it and tried again with the same result. How do I actually get 0.8.47? Many thanks. |

Welcome to MobileRead.
Did you actually run the msi installer once you downloaded it? Some people forget to do that.

If all else fails, you can of course uninstall 0.8.33, and THEN run the 0.8.47 installer. That way you're guaranteed to get the new version. You don't lose any books or settings by doing this.

I'm guessing you have the portable version of calibre installed for 0.8.33 and are trying to replace it with the .msi version, or vice versa.

You shouldn't need to uninstall the previous version btw, just run the installer.
What OS are you using? Did you download it from the official calibre web page? Is the downloaded file named calibre-0.8.47.msi (if you are a Windows user)? What does calibre say down the bottom left - no trace of an asterisk there? Edit - got distracted and others more knowledgable have posted in the meantime

Not installing latest version
My apologies for the delay in replying. I use the local library internet service and only get a limited time on it each day.
To reply to the various points (for which many thanks). I originally ran calibre-0.8.33.msi and it has worked fine. Last week I ran calibre-0.8.47.msi, but when I started Calibre bottom left of the screen said version 0.8.33 (confirmed by Properties/Version). I uninstalled 0.8.33 and reran calibre-0.8.47.msi – same result. Both versions have been downloaded from your site. I use Windows XP. PS Last night I uninstalled Calibre from its usual location in D:\Utilities\Readers\Calibre and reran calibre-0.8.47.msi. This time I let it install to wherever it wanted to (which turned out to be C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\CSS\jre). It worked, so I moved all the files to D:\Utilities\Readers\Calibre and it still worked. Very odd. Thanks for your help. |

Others may chime in, but that's a data directory, not an application directory. And surely Adobe has nothing to do with calibre. But hey, if it works, just leave it alone

Are you using your own laptop at the library, or a public computer?
if a public one you might want to use Calibre Portable from http://calibre-ebook.com/download_portable and install it on a USB key.

Not installing new version
I take my memory stick to the library to download Calibre, then I install it when I get home.

Ah! I had not thought of that option!
