Fujitsu to launch smartphones, tablets in EU

Source: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/t...w/11959502.cms

Quote:
The newspaper did not say when Fujitsu would launch the products in Europe's fast-growing and high-margin mobile device market, but said the company is targeting a "double-digit" market share in the next three to five years.
It looks like a pretty bold statement, but they have been working on some nice looking concepts, the most note-worthy being the Fujitsu Lifebook 2013 Concept Notebook.

Given the name, they seem to want it on the market next year.

Fujitsu has log offered quality machines with integral biometric security.
I could see phones and small tablets from them doing well with the legal and medical professions.

I've seen some nice concept work related to Fujitsu and I would like to see it becoming a reality. If they need market share before doing that, then .

When I went in for elective surgery a couple of years ago, the Doctor's office ran on Fujitsu Tablet PC Convertible units --- very high-tech then.

Fujitsu sell a number of high-end Windows tablet PCs at present. Nice, but very expensive.

Cost would go inversely proportional to market share. If they gain market share, then the costs will go down, so they will be able to lower the prices.

That concept image actually looks pretty interesting. Kinda what I would've rather seen with what Motorola had with the Atrix and its phone/lappy combo.

Fujitsu has made very innovative computers for many years, including great tablets as long as (probably) 10 years ago. Unfortunately they couldn't stick the Apple logo on them and spend a fortune on advertising. So they remained niche products. And no matter how good they make them, their PCs will remain niche products in the consumer business.

Not necessarily. Fujitsu are at the high-end of the tablet market intentionally; they're going after the executive market, not home sales. High price can be seen as a mark of exclusivity - it keeps out the riff-raff .

But the article was saying that they are going to go for market share. So even if they keep making some high price products they could be expanding into the lower priced ones. I'm not saying that they will make cheap tablets, but to compete with Apple and Samsung they wouldn't have to be cheap. Now if they can just keep out of patent lawsuits.
