Is there a way to delete old news from the device when downloading new news?

Is there a way to delete old news from the device when downloading new news?

The "Delete downloaded news older than" option in the news download settings only seems to delete news from the library, not from the device.

Alternately, could the new news be given the same file name as the old news, so it overwrites the old file?

The basic answer is No. It has way to many down sides for many users.

Switch to the device view (where you send News)
News that no longer exists in the main Calibre Library should not have a tick (you can sort the column by clicking the header). You can select and delete in this view.
