Amazon and Audible are giving away a free download of Water for Elephants ($6.99 Kindle), by Sara Gruen, narrated by David LeDoux and John Randolph Jones. This is supposed to be a Kindle with Special Offers deal, but you don't have to actually claim the offer on this one or even own a Kindle, at all! You'll need an Audible account, of course, and be sure that you are not being charged ($$ or credits) before completing the order.

Note that the offer may disappear at any moment, once Audible figures out that the KSO requirement isn't being enforced.

The KSO offer page also says it is to read on your Kindle, but you can download it to your PC, just like any other Audible book (and presumably copy it to any device, although I haven't tried that, yet).

Book Description
An atmospheric, gritty, and compelling novel of star-crossed lovers, set in the circus world circa 1932, by the bestselling author of Riding Lessons.

When Jacob Jankowski, recently orphaned and suddenly adrift, jumps onto a passing train, he enters a world of freaks, drifters, and misfits, a second-rate circus struggling to survive during the Great Depression, making one-night stands in town after endless town. A veterinary student who almost earned his degree, Jacob is put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It is there that he meets Marlena, the beautiful young star of the equestrian act, who is married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. He also meets Rosie, an elephant who seems untrainable until he discovers a way to reach her.

Beautifully written, Water for Elephants is illuminated by a wonderful sense of time and place. It tells a story of a love between two people that overcomes incredible odds in a world in which even love is a luxury that few can afford.

Business Strategies for the Bottom of the Pyramid ($55.19 Kindle), a collection of business books by Stuart L. Hart, Eric Kacou and Ted London, is free from Barnes & Noble. Those of you that just click on everything beware, this one is NOT free on Kindle (but you can report the lower price and maybe it will be). It's also entirely free that it wasn't supposed to be free at B&N, but my order for it went thru with no problems.

Book Description
3 extraordinary eBooks show how to build “bottom of the pyramid” businesses that are sustainable, scalable, and profitable!

Three remarkable eBooks help you overcome the pitfalls of “bottom of the pyramid” business, learn from the pioneers’ successes and failures, and build “BoP” businesses that are sustainable, scalable, and consistently profitable! In Entrepreneurial Solutions for Prosperity in BoP Markets: Strategies for Business and Economic Transformation, Eric Kacou shows how to escape the “survival trap” that keeps many BoP businesses small, inefficient, and unprofitable. Drawing on his unique on-the-ground experience in Africa’s most challenging business environments, Kacou identifies new business models, operational techniques, and leadership approaches that can help BoP businesses grow rapidly and successfully. In Next Generation Business Strategies for the Base of the Pyramid: New Approaches for Building Mutual Value, Ted London and Stuart L. Hart share proven, “on-the-ground” insights for building “Base of the Pyramid” businesses that really are sustainable and green, really will help alleviate social ills, and really can scale. Finally, in Capitalism at the Crossroads: Next Generation Business Strategies for a Post-Crisis World, Third Edition, Hart offers an up-to-the-minute primer on sustainable business for today’s executives, practical insights into what’s working and what isn’t, and expert insights for crafting and executing your company’s optimal sustainability strategy.

From world-renowned leaders in successful bottom-of-the-pyramid business innovation.

Man Law ($4.61 Kindle), by Adrienne Giordano, is this week's Free Friday pick from Barnes & Noble.

Book Description
Security Consultant Vic Andrews lives by his Man Laws:

Never mess with your best friend's sister
Never get caught
Never get attached

But he can't deny his irresistible attraction to Gina Delgado, a young widow with three kids and plenty of strings attached. Even so, having a physical relationship doesn't mean they're "in a relationship."

Gina lost her husband to tragedy; she is not getting emotionally involved with another man in a dangerous profession. Sleeping with Vic is just stress relief.

Until one of Vic's assignments goes wrong and the target selects Gina and her kids for revenge. There's nothing Vic won't do to protect Gina and the children—the family he realizes, too late, he wants. He'll accomplish his mission but will he have lost his only chance at true love?

Pixel Perfect Holiday Puzzles is a new, free game for Kindle.

Game Description
Pixel Perfect Holiday Puzzles is a logic puzzle game that challenges you to make a picture from numerical clues.

This sequel to the popular Pixel Perfect Puzzles gives you 50 new holiday and winter themed pictures to reveal. Each clue tells you where to draw a run of consecutive black squares. The clues in a row or column appear in the same order as the runs in the puzzle grid, with at least one empty square between each run. Start with the largest clues first, and then cross out squares that you know should be empty. This will allow you to narrow down the possibilities and logically determine the remaining squares.

The challenges can be tough, but there are 3 hints available on each puzzle to help you out if you get stuck. The game can even find and erase errors at any time. Time, hints used, and errors are tracked for each puzzle. Can you discover every picture?

If you like using logic to solve puzzles, you will love Pixel Perfect Holiday Puzzles!

Free Book (Kindle) - The Dark Deeps [UK]

The Dark Deeps (Main/UK), the second title in The Hunchback Assignments series by Arthur Slade, is free, for UK customers only, in the Kindle store. Those in the US will see this edition from Random House, which is $9.99.
Book Description
A fantastic Steampunk adventure in the deeps

Transforming his appearance and stealing secret documents from the French is all in a day’s work for fourteen-year-old Modo, a British secret agent. But his latest mission—to uncover the underwater mystery of something called the Ictíneo—seems impossible. There are rumors of a sea monster and a fish as big as a ship. French spies are after it, and Mr. Socrates, Modo’s master, wants to find it first. Modo and his fellow secret agent, Octavia, begin their mission in New York City, then take a steamship across the North Atlantic. During the voyage, Modo uncovers an astounding secret.

The Dark Deeps, the second book in Arthur Slade’s Hunchback Assignments series, is set in a fascinating Steampunk Victorian world. Modo’s underwater adventures and his encounters with the young French spy Colette Brunet, the fearless Captain Monturiol, and the dreaded Clockwork Guild guarantee a gripping read filled with danger, suspense, and brilliant inventions.

The Hunchback Assignments, the first title in the series, is also bargain priced for those in the UK, at $2.84, but not for those in the US ($8.99).
Book Description
A gripping new series combines Steampunk, spying, and a fantastic Victorian London.

The mysterious Mr. Socrates rescues Modo, a child in a traveling freak show. Modo is a hunchback with an amazing ability to transform his appearance, and Mr. Socrates raises him in isolation as an agent for the Permanent Association, a spy agency behind Brittania’s efforts to rule the empire. At 14, Modo is left on the streets of London to fend for himself. When he encounters Octavia Milkweed, another Association agent, the two uncover a plot by the Clockword Guild behind the murders of important men. Furthermore, a mad scientist is turning orphan children into automatons to further the goals of the Guild. Modo and Octavia journey deep into the tunnels under London and discover a terrifying plot against the British government. It’s up to them to save their country.

Empire of Ruins, the third title in the series, completes the sweep for those in the UK at $3.18. Those in the US will pay $10.99.
Book Description
Secret agent Modo's next assignment? Find ancient Egyptian ruins hidden deep in the Australian jungle and the mysterious God Face, rumoured to be a powerful weapon--anyone who looks upon it will be driven mad. And he must find the God Face before the evil Clockwork Guild does!

and baby kindle , mini kindle (mindle), etc. K4 is really the touch (for most). I wish they would stop naming the latest version just "Kindle" - makes it hard to talk tosupport or write about them.

K4 is used to mean the Non-Touch version since the Kindle Touch is the actual name for the touch version.

depends on writer. 4 is 4th gen -- touch fits that better than the $79 K (which is more like K3-1, signifying it's a K3, minus some features). It is less in several areas, also, although I do like the power button (but still despise the usb location -- w/ it's much smaller battery, it's more likely to need to be pluggedin while in use now and then). at least it retains the K3 page buttons, which are lost on the K4.

I see your points. That could be why Amazon just called it a Kindle instead of denoting the "4".
