Kindle Keyboard, aka K3, has a new update available. If you aren't patient enough to wait for the OTA, the updates can be found here. Take note, this is from Amazon.com. Each of the following KKs require different updates:

Kindle Keyboard Wi-Fi: Download 3.3
Your serial number will start with "B008"

Kindle Keyboard 3G (Free 3G + Wi-Fi) - U.S. and Canadian Customers*: Download 3.3
Your serial number will start with "B006"

Kindle Keyboard 3G (Free 3G + Wi-Fi) - European Customers*: Download 3.3
Your serial number will start with "B00A"

Download your archived Personal Documents on Kindle Keyboard: You can now view and download your archived personal documents to your Kindle Keyboard conveniently anywhere at any time. Your personal documents will be stored in your Kindle library until you delete them from Manage Your Kindle.

I am still on 3.1 and cannot see how to update.

If I go MENU>SYNC I just get the message "no new documents"

Download the correct .bin file from the linked page. After plugging the USB cable to your Kindle, drag the .bin file to your Kindle (most likely, Drive K). Do NOT put this file into one of the document folders. After ejecting the Kindle, the "Update Kindle" should be lit. Home page/menu/settings then menu/update Kindle.

I hadn't tried the USB approach but I was wondering why I hadn't got to 3.2 via WIFI

I believe 3.2.x is the SO version. You would have to purchase a "Special Offers" Kindle to have it. Anyway, non SO versions will go from 3.1 to 3.3.

I tried to update my kindle from OS 3.1 by USB copying .bin into root folder, I carefully checked the serial number "008" and tthere should no way to mistaken the bin file.
Bug I met an error in 2nd rebooting process （there was "step1 of 2") on right bottom. "Your update is not successful, kindle will be restarted", any comments on that?

I'm updating mine now.

Edit: Everything went smoothly but turn on WiFi or it will tell you no books are in your archive items! They will show up once you synch the K3.

Updating my Kindle 3 er I guess make that Kindle Keyboard went smoothly.

I was really hoping that we'd get the full screen refresh happening less often the way the new models work, but no luck there. Strange, since Duokan allows you to do that so it's not a hardware limitation. Why would they want only some of their models refreshing without that flash every page?

I rarely use personal documents, at least via Amazon since it won't let me send them to my iPad Kindle app, so I just use calibre. The Voice Guide shortcut works, but I don't really need it either. Nice to have it there I suppose.

Is there anything else about this update that's different from the old version? Looks pretty much the same otherwise.

Does anyone know if the jailbreak still works? Also, if you are already jailbroken and updated, can I have a copy of /usr/sbin/otaup

Hopefully it doesn't break the screensaver hack, otherwise I'll try to stay on 3.1 as I see nothing compelling there.


As for the screen refresh that Snorkledorf mentioned, I really hope that they don't implement that, as I prefer the flash to be consistent. Flashing sometimes seems more annoying than every time, and at least on the Nook, it causes subtle ghosting by the time it finally does refresh.

Screensaver hack works and refresh isn't changed at all for keyboard users.
