FT Web-based app more popular than app sold in Apple store

For the Apple non-admirers, here is something to thrill you:

REUTERS

Quote:
The FT was one of the first major publishers to reduce its dependence on Apple Inc and go out with an HTML5-based mobile application that can be read by any browser, thus bypassing the App Store.

FT.com Managing Director Rob Grimshaw told Reuters that the new Web-based app was drawing more traffic than the version that was sold through the App Store.
Looks like web apps may be one way to circumvent Apple's 30% take for selling in its " walled garden".

Before the Apple bashers rejoice too much, there are lots of special circumstances and caveats that may make this a "one off. " Its not even clear that FT is getting any new subscribers, as opposed to transfers from those who used the native app.
Still, encouraging news for FT. What say you all?

Any why would non-admirers care? Since I don't have an iDevice, how does it affect me?

Trust me, they care.
In any case, what's your opinion on web apps? Do you see FT starting a new trend?

I think it's obvious at least one non-admirer here cares. A lot.

I think that they might be good. But the success would depend on the browser, right?
