I third "Storm Front" by Jim Butcher.
And I have a question: are Mythology books good for nomination in a Fantasy thread? I ask because if somebody still believe in ancient religions, may hold the myths as Truth and can be offended by a nomination here... Second question is: can "The Book of the New Sun" be nominated as one book, even if it's been published in two to four volumes? Thank You. |

My third and final nomination is a fun book, writen by the master Terry Brooks.
Magic Kingdom for Sale -- Sold After Ben Holiday purchased Landover, he discovered the magic kingdom had some problems. The Barons refused to recognize a king and the peasants were without hope. To make matters worse, Ben learned that he had to duel to the death with the Iron Mask, the terrible lord of the demons--a duel which no human could hope to win.... |

I would like to nominate Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder.
Starred Review. Shivers, obsession, sleepless nights—these are the results not of one of the milder poisons that novice food-taster Yelena must learn during her harrowing job training but of newcomer Snyder's riveting fantasy that unites the intelligent political focus of George R.R. Martin with a subtle yet potent romance. Through a stroke of luck, Yelena escapes execution in exchange for tasting the food of the Commander, ruler of Ixia. Though confined to a dank prison cell and doomed to a painful death, Yelena slowly blooms again, caught up in castle politics. But some people are too impatient to wait for poison to finish off Yelena. With the help of Valek, her steely-nerved, cool-eyed boss and the Commander's head of security, she soon discovers that she has a starring role to play in Ixia's future—a role that could lead to her being put to death as a budding magician even if she hits each cue perfectly. The first in a series, this is one of those rare books that will keep readers dreaming long after they've read it. |

I would like to nominate "The Dark is Rising" by Susan Cooper. It is the second in a series, but it is supposed to be a stand-alone and seems to be better liked than the first in the series. I've found available for purchase in epub in several stores (Borders, Kobo), but I'm not sure if Amazon sells it as a Kindle book as well. Kobo seems to have the cheapest copy:

I second The Winds Of Khalakovo - sounds interesting.
ETA - For my last vote, I couldn't decide between The Eye Of The World and Stardust. I have now though and I will go with seconding Stardust. It sounds like it could be a fun read. Last edited by sun surfer; 06-24-2011 at 07:31 PM. |
