I know The Spy Who Came in from the Cold by John le Carré isn't available in the US as an ebook, but it can be had as a pbook.

Uh oh. I thought that availability as an eBook in the US was a requirement. If it's not, I've got a terrific nomination in mind.

I could be wrong but I don't think being an ebook in the US is a requirement this month.

If that's the case, I will also second (or third if it's already seconded) The Spy Who Came In From The Cold. I'm intrigued that it's on those lists of great books.

If it's the third in a series, will we be lost if we haven't read the other two though? Or will it be easy enough to pick up?

Sorry - I didn't mean that it invalidates the nomination, but such information might be pertinent to those voting. I know I wouldn't vote for a book that is not available legally as an ebook in Australia for example.

The selections have two simple requirements..

1. It must be available as an ebook.

2. It should fall in the month category.

Well, even though The Spy Who Came In From The Cold is not available as an e-book in the U.S. (is it elsewhere?), have no fear U.S. citizens, because as it came up in search results, The Dog Who Came In From The Cold and The Prostitute Who Came In From The Cold are both available as e-books in the U.S.!

Being an eBook in the US is not a requirement. But TBH, I think that if it's not, it won't have a chance to win.

I've read it twice, and seen the film at least three times, so though I like it, don't really want to read it again.

I'd like to nominate Vanishing Act by Thomas Perry, as it has been recommended in another thread by CRussel, and I want to read it soon.

a taut thriller that at times reads like an extended, though flawed, character study of its heroine. Jane Whitefield, half-white, half-Indian member of the Seneca Wolf clan, helps people disappear-people like Rhonda Eckerly, fleeing her abusive husband, or Harry Kemple, hoping to stay alive after witnessing a gangland shooting. Like a one-woman witness protection program, Jane has helped both vanish by giving them new identities and new starts at life. Now an alleged new victim has invaded Jane's upstate New York house: John Felker claims that he's a cop-turned-accountant, is being framed as an embezzler and has a contract out on his life. Almost immediately, the men chasing Felker appear, and Jane leads him farther upstate, to a Canadian Indian reservation where he can build a new life. Jane is an original and fascinating creation. Like Andrew Vachss's series hero, Burke, she operates outside the law, but with a particular slant born of her distinct character and Seneca heritage. Perry tells her story in a trim and brisk manner, moreover, with plenty of action and suspense. It takes Jane far longer than it will most readers to figure out that Felker is other than what he says, however, and while her trusting nature, which borders on gullibility, generates tension, it doesn't mesh with her hard-boiled profession and hunter-like wiles. It's only when the truth behind Felker is revealed, and Jane acts decisively on it, that most readers will regain the respect they've lost for this otherwise likable and unusually intriguing heroine.
