I'm giving up piracy discussions for Lent.
Just an FYI to everyone: I'm going to give up participating in, reading or even tangentially discussing ebook piracy for Lent. It seems like something I can certainly do without, as it does not gain me anything, does not make me feel good, and tends to antagonize people. I invite anyone who's interested to join me.

(And what am I taking on for Lent? A new writing project with an old friend.)

I thought that whatever it is that one gives up for Lent, the giving up is supposed to represent some kind of sacrifice. Giving up discussions about ebook piracy seems to me to be akin to giving up toothache

Oh, I consider giving up the personal drive to provide reason, encourage honest debate and inspire fairness and social responsibility to be a sacrifice, all right. It's always been painful, but I consider it part of my duty as a member of society to fight the good fight, regardless of cost. To me, this is akin to turning my back on a mugging.

I completely gave up on 'bricks and morter' religion many years ago.

Trying to grow spiritually for me is another story.
