I recently made an epub in InDesign with their "export for Digital Editions" and it works in Digital Editions with no problems, but when I run it through a validator (epub validator) I get a bunch of errors. I've added it to Calibre and it works fine, I even re-convert it to epub in Calibre and it works fine, but it won't upload to Stanza on my iphone (presumably because it won't validate and there's some error in it there). Can anyone help, tell me if there's some options in export I did or didn't choose or something I need to rewrite in the metadata or xml file or if it's just the way Adobe exports the files. Thanks. Here are the errors: 1. ERROR: Escape From Hell Book copy.epub/META-INF/encryption.xml(1): attribute "compression" from namespace "http://ns.adobe.com/digitaleditions/enc" not allowed at this point; ignored 2. ERROR: Escape From Hell Book copy.epub/META-INF/encryption.xml(1): attribute "compression" from namespace "http://ns.adobe.com/digitaleditions/enc" not allowed at this point; ignored 3. ERROR: Escape From Hell Book copy.epub/META-INF/encryption.xml(1): attribute "compression" from namespace "http://ns.adobe.com/digitaleditions/enc" not allowed at this point; ignored 4. ERROR: Escape From Hell Book copy.epub/OEBPS/content.opf(2): date value '' is not valid, YYYY[-MM[-DD]] expected 6. Check finished with warnings or errors! Here's what the XML file looks like: <encryption xmlns="urn asis:names:tc pendocument:xmlns:conta iner" xmlns:enc="http://www.w3.org/2001/04/xmlenc#" xmlns:deenc="http://ns.adobe.com/digitaleditions/enc"><enc:EncryptedData deenc:compression="none"><enc:EncryptionMethod Algorithm="http://ns.adobe.com/pdf/enc#RC"/><enc:CipherData><enc:CipherReference URI="OEBPS/Fonts/ACaslonPro-Bold.otf"/></enc:CipherData></enc:EncryptedData><enc:EncryptedData deenc:compression="none"><enc:EncryptionMethod Algorithm="http://ns.adobe.com/pdf/enc#RC"/><enc:CipherData><enc:CipherReference URI="OEBPS/Fonts/ACaslonPro-Regular.otf"/></enc:CipherData></enc:EncryptedData><enc:EncryptedData deenc:compression="none"><enc:EncryptionMethod Algorithm="http://ns.adobe.com/pdf/enc#RC"/><enc:CipherData><enc:CipherReference URI="OEBPS/Fonts/Calibri.ttf"/></enc:CipherData></enc:EncryptedData><enc:EncryptedData deenc:compression="none"><enc:EncryptionMethod Algorithm="http://ns.adobe.com/pdf/enc#RC"/><enc:CipherData><enc:CipherReference URI="OEBPS/Fonts/ACaslonPro-BoldItalic.otf"/></enc:CipherData></enc:EncryptedData></encryption>

Never used epub validator so I don't have an answer, but you might want to list which version you're using. Are you using CS5 or CS4 and if CS4 is it the 6.0.5 update?
Also IIRC epub validator uses ePub Check as it's engine. Not sure if it's still the case, but I remember ePub Check having a few bugs.

Sorry, it' s 6.0.5 (CS4).
Epub Validator was the first one I saw, so I used it, it was a simple uplad the file and get a result thing. I'll look at epub check. I saw it but didn't do anything with it yet. Thanks. |

Unfortunately, there are currently two font obfuscation algorithms. The one Adobe came up with, with ADE and most other ePub readers understands, and the IDPF Standard method, that almost no-one uses yet, but that is the only one that will pass ePub validation. If you ePubs are going to be distributed with DRM, try generating them without font encryption. They'll then pass the validation, and the fonts will get encrypted along with the rest of the files. Alternatively, consider whether or not you really need to embed fonts, or those particular fonts. It will all get sorted out eventually, and everyone'll be using the IDPF method. But we're not there yet.

Great. Worked and it still looks the same, at least on the first try through Adobe Digital Editions. Any clue about fixing the date issue?
"OEBPS/content.opf(2): date value '' is not valid, YYYY[-MM[-DD]] expected" Thanks so much. |

Or just open in Sigil, and check/correct the Metadata and save. That should do it too.
