I always try the "remove spacing between paragraphs" option when I convert from epub to epub but it has never worked. The text always has the exact same wide space between every paragraph when I read them on my iPad. There must be some way to do this but it seems impossible to do with Calibre. Can anyone help me with this? (I wrote about this problem over a year ago here but no one offered any solution other than using the Calibre option that never works.) |

Where are the ePubs from, is it a specific publisher or store?
The best way to remove the spacing is probably to change the .epub extension to .zip and then edit the style(s) that are causing the space. You can also explode the ePub in Calibre and get access to the files contents that way (right click on the book and select Tweak Book). The other way to edit things would be using Sigil. If any of the files are public domain post or link to one so someone can take a look.

The problem my be in Styles (CSS or the <style> section in the <head> of each xHTML file) and may be some "empty paragraphs" placed between each paragraph. These often are in the form of <p> </p> but sometimes you'll encounter one that has each chapter in one big <p> and uses <br />'s to create the visible paragraph breaks. Calibre can't heal all of the many possibilities.

I found the problem.
I've never tried Sigil before.
I opened the file, set to Code View and found that: <p class="calibre1"> </p> Is between each paragraph. So that's what is causing the spaces. I globally deleted that line and hallelujah! it worked! Thanks for the tip! Is there a way for Calibre to globally delete this? Sigil is great but it would be nice for Calibre to do it in one step. |

Under Heuristics, delete blank lines between paragraphs. If it's a style as the others described you can use the remove blank space between paragraphs under Look and Feel.
