Sigil abends

Anyone else having this problem? I am editing an epub book and making corrections in code view, when Sigil abends with no warning or anything. I have noticed that it abends more frequently when I just use the mouse to navigate then when I use the cursor keys to navigate. I reason I sue the code view it allows me to see what misspellings and other problems there are with the text which are not visible in book view.

Ideas anyone?

What version number on what OS???

I use 5.1 and mouse/cursor keys all the time. There ARE known things that will crash Sigil 5's AFAIK cursor keys is not one.

BTW how many dozen changes did you make before a crash ( more frequent saves )

What does "abends" mean? My Chambers dictionary is unaware of the word.

He probably means "abort" or "crash". The German word "abends" won't fit to the issue.

At least one Urban Dictionary contributor thinks otherwise.

I think we can all safely assume that it means CRASH, WordWeb or UrbDictionary or otherwise.

I'm with Ducky on the question: what version, and vis-a-vis mousing, what were you doing that preceded the crash/abort?

Old IBM (mainframe) users used that term for: Abnormal Ending

Yes, the term goes back to at least the sixties. Its relationship to German is similar to the following:

ACHTUNG!
ALLES TURISTEN UND NONTEKNISCHEN LOOKENPEEPERS!
DAS KOMPUTERMASCHINE IST NICHT FÜR DER GEFINGERPOKEN UND MITTENGRABEN! ODERWISE IST EASY TO SCHNAPPEN DER SPRINGENWERK, BLOWENFUSEN UND POPPENCORKEN MIT SPITZENSPARKSEN.
IST NICHT FÜR GEWERKEN BEI DUMMKOPFEN. DER RUBBERNECKEN SIGHTSEEREN KEEPEN DAS COTTONPICKEN HÄNDER IN DAS POCKETS MUSS.
ZO RELAXEN UND WATSCHEN DER BLINKENLICHTEN.

This goes back to the middle 50s.

Isn't abend German for evening, so abends is evenings.
(As in "Guten abend." - "Good evening.")

German at school was a long time ago, so I may be mistaken.

If my rather rusty German is correct, "abends" on its own means "in the evening".

that is correct - it was standard IBM-speak when I worked on IBM mainframes in early 70s

THINK

My dad brought home the plaque in the 50's.

Me: I made many connections to the companies 2 308x series.
DASD, Spool EBSIDC were other common terms

I was an ICL mainframe man myself; we had a completely different set of jargon to that lot in the funny blue suits. "Mill" anyone?
