Publishers Discriminating Against Amazon at Libraries?

I often check my libraries "Newly Released Section." I noticed that very few of the books have the Kindle button. They only seem to be available as Adobe ePubs. I've sent a message to my library, but don't expect to hear back until Monday. I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed this or knew why there is less availability for Kindles.

I do have a Sony reader also, but I had gotten used to how convenient it was to only use one reader.

There is definitely less availability for Kindles. This has been discussed a bit in the General and News forums. If I come across the topics, I will link to them.

It's a mixed bag of books at the King County Library in Washington State, some are available and some aren't. I've read in other post that's it a decision by the publisher not the library.

Our regional library in the Kansas City area seems to be pretty balanced, with nearly all the books I've looked at available in both formats.

In fact, there are books in the kcls catalog that have a listing for a kindle/mobi format that have had that format removed. It's the @$@#$ publisher. It's mildly annoying that kcls has not removed the link for the missing format.

I've noticed that, too, at least, at the CLEVNET library. I didn't really look at old titles, but when the September change went into place, I didn't notice any new books not being available in both formats. Then, after Penguin temporarily withdrew its support for Kindle ebooks at the library, I began noticing it on new books from then on. And it's not just Penguin - I've seen it on Harlequin ebooks that only ePub is available.

Now...that MIGHT be because Harlequin makes ePubs available on its own website a month earlier than it releases to other sites, so maybe only ePub was available when the library pre-ordered the books. I haven't gone back to see if Kindle links showed up after the first month.
