Sophie and Liza are always dusted up and never thinking clearly, they just endure the misery; Liza more than Sophie; Sophie is like Alex, kind of slow-witted, so she don’t care as much; but Liza’s at the point of not being able to take it anymore; and the tipping point is when all the girls chip in and buy and give Long Legs Paulina a white opal ring for Christmas because they feel bad for her because Alex broke her jaw, but when they return one day to discover she’s no longer there and days later see the white opal ring on Alex’s girlfriend’s finger, they are infuriated and pushed to their limits and take the biggest gamble of their sad existences: they plan on killing him, knowing that if they fail, somebody’s going to be held accountable.
