Fifteen Great Beach Paperback Reads
Per CNN, here is their list of 15 great paperbacks to take with you to the beach
http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/07/living...ml?hpt=hp_bn11 Surprised The Martian didn't make the list but maybe it's not in paperback yet. I see Gone Girl is first on the list. Anybody read that yet and, if so, what are your thoughts? Last edited by MickeyC; 07-07-2014 at 08:10 PM. |

Gone Girl is the only book on that list that I'm planning to read. Nothing else there seems like a must-read.

I would also recommend Boys in the Boat and The Rosie Project. Lawrence in Arabia is also a very good non fiction history of the Middle East.

The Rosie Project was a fun read. Lawrence in Arabia was a good non fiction read.

What makes a book a good "beach" read?
Are they sand resistant? Water resistant? Or is it more like: it's summer; people go on vacation in the summer; many people go to the beach for vacation; here's a list of popular books available in paperback? Last edited by DiapDealer; 07-10-2014 at 08:15 AM. |

If I am at the beach then any book I am reading is a beach read.

I think the list was just popular books available in paperback--none of them seemed to fit my own definition of a beach read: something long and engrossing, which is not particularly complex or mentally taxing.

I completely agree. I wouldn't see one of these as a good beach book. Carl Hiassen writes good beach material.

As far as sand and water resistant. My Kindle 4 NT in a quart freezer bags works nicely... |

The Rosie Project was a really fun read. When I read this it reminded me of Sheldon Cooper, the TV character in Big Bang Theory. |
