Add books not working?

I have just upgraded to the latest version of calibre 1.38. I'm trying to add books which I downloaded on to my kindle fire (not from amazon) I used the Add Book button on calibre and nothing happens, I tried 'dragging' the book across but it will not accept the book this way either.
I had no problems with the previous version of calibre, is this an issue that anyone else is having or is it just me?

Never mind I have discovered that if i transfer the files to a folder on the pc and then added the books from there it worked.

So for some reason you cannot add books or files directly from the Kindle Fire you have to move to the pc and then add books to calibre that way.
