The good news here is that the SD slot is SDHD allowing some good-sized SD cards to be used to expand the available flash. I am not aware of the upper limit of SDHD, but I have heard of 8G cards available now.

I like it, too. I've seen references to a follow on model with a 10" display, which I like even better.

Embedded Linux, better battery life, and a weight of about a pound? Sold, even if it is a lot more than $199.

I have not seen much about the 10" display recently, but the "2nd generation" version is due in 2008Q2 and will use Intel's Menlow platform. See asuseeehacks and laptoplogic.

Looks like from reports that the 10 " is dead..

Toshiba has an 8G SDHC card now. A 16G is coming in October with a 32G to follow in January of 2008. The price for the 32G is US$695.95. It seems we don't have to worry about flash for our EEEs. Asus shows this page with a shot of the battery compartment built into the hinge. I don't know if this is the EEE in the photo, but the hinge is similar to that shown in the EEE photos.

I occasionally peruse the Asus site to see if they have announced the availability of the Asus EEE 701. So far no luck.
