New Sony eLibrary Software Released

Sony has just released a new version of their Windows side software for the Reader. Called version 2.5.00.09170, the major improvements seem to be:
  • Adds support for 64-bit versions of Microsoft® Windows Vista® operating systemAdds support for the Sony Reader Digital Book PRS-700
  • Adds support for managing Annotations and Highlights
Sony is continuing with its stated position of not adding additional features for the PRS-500 and such improvements as the 64-bit versions of the operating system is not supported for the PRS-500 as the architecture is different from the PRS-505 and PRS-700.

The full writeup is here.

In addition to the items stated above, the new software provides two additional font size options for Windows on-screen viewing -- XL and XXL. There is no increase in the options available on the Reader, at least my PRS-500 still provides S, M, and L for the font sizes.

Those are part of the PRS-700 features as it supports those font sizes.

Point well taken. My intent was to keep expectations in line that this was not a feature enhancement for older models.

The installation is very smooth and in the brief time that I have used the new vesion. the eLibrary seems to run a bit faster than the prior version.

Wasn't this version released a while ago? I remember someone talking a couple of weeks ago on the Sony forum about how 64bit Vista was now supported?

I, too, seem to remember this mentioned about two weeks ago. I found two threads:

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33905

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33550

This was the software for the computer (not the Reader). It allowed, among other things, to enlarge the text additional sizes.

FYI, it was released on Nov 25, 2008, a little over 3 weeks ago.
